Pulse Africa -Sport for Education

PULSE AFRICA is an association represented by Fatou Kiné Ndiaye, a former French and Senegalese international basketball player, dedicated to education through sport.

Fatou Kiné Ndiaye is a pillar of French and Senegalese basketball, with almost 80 caps for the French national team. Her track record and her nomination as the best African player in the history of European basketball attest to her impact on Senegalese and French basketball.

School drop-out rates for girls in Africa

Education is recognised as a universal right, as a factor in social fulfilment and the promotion of competitiveness and innovation for economic development.
Senegal, like the international community, is committed to universal access to education for its young population.
The government's commitment to the education sector is set out in the "Programme d'Amélioration de la Qualité, de l'Ethique et de la Transparence du secteur de l'Education et de la Formation" (PAQUET-EF, 2013-2025), the fundamental objective of which is to improve access to and the quality of education for all.
The end of the first phase of PAQUET coincides with the year of adoption of the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), one of which is SDG4 on education.
Regular policy monitoring is therefore essential to ensure that inclusive, equitable and sustainable education policies are properly oriented and that their objectives are achieved.

The context of the project

In 2020, the pass rate for the Brevet de fin d'études moyennes (Bfem) was relatively higher for girls (74.57%) than for boys (74.43%).
In the same year, girls achieved an admission rate of 52%, all series combined, compared with 37.8% for boys, according to figures from the Office du Baccalauréat.
This performance is linked to the parity index, which tilts in favour of girls, and to the support they receive.
If girls stand out from the crowd, it's because they benefit from positive discrimination....
We are witnessing a synergy of action between all the players in the education community in the fight to get girls into school".
Taking charge of girls' education calls for strong community mobilisation and commitment from all players.
Senegal understood this vision very early on and has resolutely committed itself to promoting girls' education through a policy of access, retention and promotion.
